McDonald Contracting of Arlington has created the 2023 McDonald Contracting Trades Scholarship, to be awarded to one person later this year. This is the first time that the scholarship is being offered.
Those eligible to apply for the $2,000 scholarship are current high-school seniors or current postsecondary undergraduate students interested in trade fields. The application – details below – must be filed by March 31.
Applicants should be currently enrolled in or planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year, four-year or vocational-technical school. A minimum grade-point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required. Applicants also must be planning to pursue a degree or a certificate in trade fields, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, construction management or interior design.
Ed McDonald, owner and CEO of McDonald Contracting, is doing this to give students interested in the trade fields some financial assistance with their education, a spokeswoman said in a news release. She added that his experiential understanding of the opportunity and success available in the industry makes this scholarship meaningful to him and the whole team at McDonald Contracting.
“It’s a privilege to be in the position to offer this scholarship and give back to the community that has given us so much,” Ed McDonald was quoted as saying. “We are excited to give a young, talented student the opportunity to enter such a rewarding field of work.”
To apply, go to this part of the company website. Applicants should complete and submit the online form by March 31 to be considered. The scholarship recipient will be notified on April 12, the news release said.
