The Arlington Historical Society was the host for an illustrated lecture by local historian A. Michael Ruderman on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Masonic Temple, 19 Academy St.

He explored Arlington’s parks, streets, schools and other named places in town, demonstrating how they are a collection of the area's most visible history.

Attendance was free for members of the Arlington Historical Society and $5 for nonmembers.

"I'm drawn to what a collection says about its collector," Ruderman said in a society announcement. "I'm considering the 'collection' to be the named and memorialized spaces in Arlington. I'll test a number of theories about why people collect things and what they desire, consciously or unconsciously, to say about themselves. If the theories hold, I think we'll want to examine ourselves as collectors and what our policy towards named spaces should be in the future."
