“This year’s water- and sewer-rate increases, compaired with those of the past three years, is much smaller,” said Town Manager Sandy Pooler at the Select Board’s March 20 meeting.
Arlington’s water rates will go up by 3.66 percent, and sewer rates 3.54 percent, as unanimously approved by the board at the meeting.

Why this lesser rise? Because 1.) Arlington has finished the debt transfer in which general-fund tax dollars helped to subsidize water and sewer rates, and 2.) the town’s use has been relatively low compared to that of other communities in the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, o MWRA, he explained.
“This will allow us to go forward in the next year with a balanced budget and sufficient funds to operate the water and sewer department,” added Pooler.
Board member John Hurd said, “It’s nice to see a reasonable rate.”
