Two-hour delay for Wednesday’s trash collection

UPDATED: The Town of Arlington has declared a snow emergency/parking ban, effective Tuesday, March 14, starting at 10 p.m. and ending on at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

On Wednesday, March 15, a two-hour delay in trash collection is in effect. Trash collection plans to start at 9 a.m. Residents are asked to keep trash and recycling receptacles off the street to allow for plows to maintain the roads.

During a parking ban, parking is NOT allowed on streets and permitted spots. Vehicles parked are subject to ticketing and towing. Parking will be allowed in municipal lots at all times; rates apply after ban.

Schools closed

Arlington public and parochial schools are closed Tuesday, March 14, as powerful nor’easter hit the state.

Minuteman High School has no afternoon classes or evening activities, Channel 5 reports.

The storm moved into Massachusetts late Monday night, bringing potentially damaging winds, rain, and heavy snow to the region, though forecasts indicate Boston will be spared the worst of the storm.

Wet snow began falling in Western Massachusetts around 9 p.m., while the rest of the state saw cold rain showers that will later turn to snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Much of central and western Massachusetts could get between 7 and 18 inches of snow, and up to 22 inches of snow is possible in areas of higher terrain. Between 1 and 6 inches of snow is expected in Boston, but forecasters warned that there is still uncertainty in the forecast for Eastern Massachusetts.

After a storm it is equally important for all residents and businesses to keep public walkways, fire hydrants, and catch basins clear.
