‍YourArlington

YourArlington has been reporting town news since 2006, and #Giving Tuesday provides an incentive to support Arlington's online news source.

In addition, NewsMatch, a powerful fund-raising movement backing independent local journalism through the Institute for Nonprofit News, will double any contribution you make of up to $1,000 until the end of the year.

With the support of readers like you, those guiding the nonprofit news site hope to earn $20,000, enabling us to keep delivering in-depth, insightful journalism, such as the first report about the controversy as well as the in-depth background about the MBTA Communities Act debate >>

To produce a story like this takes time and money. And that's one good story -- with thousands to come.

Arlington Historical Society

On this “Giving Tuesday” we hope you’ll consider including us in your year-end donations. We have come so far and we could not have done it without the donations of supporters like you. Donations will help us to continue our work connecting people with the history of Arlington. We look forward to the upcoming 250th anniversary of events that had an enormous impact on our town, our country, and the world: the conflict on April 19, 1775 that signaled the start of the American Revolution. As you might expect, the Society is participating in this planning, with members involved in the various committees formed to coordinate efforts across the region to plan events, projects, and education informed by these events.

As we reflect on what we’ve accomplished this year and what we plan for the future, we ask for your help for this mission through a contribution to our annual appeal. This year your financial and volunteer help has enabled us to:

  • Work with the town to erect a long overdue monument to the enslaved and free persons of color buried in unmarked graves in the Old Burying Ground.
  • Continue our work to preserve and maintain the Jason Russell House with the invaluable aid of a grant from the Town of Arlington through the Community Preservation Act.
  • Perform the inventory, digitization, and rehousing of much of our collections into modern storage with a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)and the hard work of volunteers. We now have over 7,000 records online, 39% of our total collection. We are also working with the state’s Digital Commonwealth project to incorporate this data.
  • Work with our legislative delegation (Sen. Friedman, Rep. Garballey, and Rep. Rogers) to secure financial support that will allow us to undertake a similar project for the rest of our collection.
  • Reopen our newly-remodeled exhibit space with the exhibition "Favorite Things" This which celebrates our 125 years as a collecting institution and serves as an appreciation of our volunteers. It will be on view until 2025 when we will unveil a special 250th exhibition.
  • Celebrate summer with our community by hosting a beer garden with local musicians and food from Menotomy Grill and Tavern. This was enabled by restorative work to the grounds and the large shade trees on the JRH lawn after an unexpected but necessary sewer replacement project.
  • Bring back the education program this spring - welcoming local third grade classes to a half day of activities including a tour of the Jason Russell House.

We are working to achieve as much as we can with your support and to increase its impact where possible with grants from other sources for specific projects. These resources enable us to continue to provide our programming, act as careful stewards of our facilities, and to support our small staff, who work hard to support our volunteers and help us find opportunities for grants. I hope you can join me in making a tax-deductible donation to the Society this year as we fulfill our mission to interpret and share Arlington’s history.

Food Link

Every day, our volunteers and staff move 3,300 pounds of rescued food to agencies serving people facing food insecurity throughout Greater Boston. This number represents more than just pounds of food.

Behind this number are the relationships we develop with agencies to learn their desired foods; the hours we spend sourcing high-value items like meat, produce, and dairy; and the miles we drive to rescue it all. This food enables our recipient agencies to accommodate clients' food needs and stretch their budgets to make additional programming possible. Donors like you make this connection possible.

A recipient agency recently shared with us, “Guests are always excited to see what you have brought to the table.” This GivingTuesday, will you help bring food to the table for your neighbors in need? A group of corporate and individual sponsors will double your impact by matching all gifts up to $100,000 through 12/31.

  • $50 funds a week’s worth of repacking supplies
  • $125 fuels our food rescue vehicles for a month
  • $500 rescues over 500 pounds of nutrient-dense food

Food insecurity is not a one-time event but rather a chronic issue deeply embedded in the fabric of our society. It takes all of us working together to make sure everyone has a seat at the table. Community members like you play a vital role in bringing food to where it is most needed. Thank you for being a part of our mission to bring excitement, hope, and nourishment to your neighbors' tables.

Arlington EATS

Did you know SNAP doesn’t cover many hygiene products, like toilet paper, diapers and feminine hygiene products? EATS makes sure our neighbors have access to all these essentials.

These necessities come with a big price tag, which is why we are asking for your support this #GivingTuesday.

Help us raise $30,000 so we can provide the necessary hygiene products to our neighbors all year round.

Your donation provides the daily products to use in the restroom, care for children and manage menstrual cycles. A gift of $150 provides a weeks' worth of toilet paper. Thank you for supporting your neighbors.

Arlington Education Association

Did you know that AEF's roots go back 32 years? Our current organization is just hitting its teen years, but the community support and structure has been in action for much longer.

Consider a donation to help us continue supporting teachers and classrooms in Arlington.
